24/7 EVENT - VIDEO CHAT APPS

Video Chat is by far the best way to communicate with friends and family far and near - there is just something about being able to see the other person you are talking with when "making a call", so here are just a few of the free apps that will work perfectly for our "24/7 Event".....

1)  Apple's "FaceTime" app is said to be one of the best video chat tools available and it works on almost all Apple devices.  You don't have to download the FaceTime app for iOS because it is a standard app on every iOS device running iOS 5 or higher and Mac computers with cameras.

2)  Since the "Skype" app is so well known and one of the most widely used, it is available on nearly every platform including Android, iOS, Mac OS X, Windows Phone, Linux and Windows on the computer.  With "Skype", you can do video calls (including group calls), audio calls and texting.

                         Kindle Fire HD
                         Tablets

3)  The "WhatsApp" app allows you to share messages, photos and videos with up to 256 people at once with group chats.  With video calls, you use your phone's internet connection, instead of your cell plan's voice minutes.

4)  The "Snapchat" app can do live 1-on-1 video calls and text messaging (and they don't mean sending 10 second snaps to friends either).  "Snapchat" works differently than any other video calling app - you can't really even "call" someone in the traditional sense - you swipe to the right on a name in your inbox to open the chat screen, when both you and your friend are on the chat page at the same time, you press the blue button to open up video calling.  Users say it works well.

5)  The "LINE" app provides free international voice and video calls.

6)  The "Facebook Messenger" app is Facebook users "go to" when keeping close with family and friends.  It offers unlimited 1-on-1 and group video calls with up to 8 people.

7)  The "Google Duo" app is limited to video calls only allowing you to chat face to face with up to 12 people.

9)  The "Hangouts"** app is said to be the obvious FaceTime replacement for Android users.  It can even replace the iMessaging.  "Hangouts" can do video calls with groups up to 10 people and 1-on-1's.  To use "Hangouts", you'll need a Google account and then you can message or call anyone else with a Google account.  **Google is rebranding "Hangouts" to just "Google Chat" so there may be some confusion regarding this video chat app until the transition is completed.
